Novak Djokovic will face Alex de Minaur in the Beijing ATP 500 final. On Monday, October 5, the Serbian advanced after Daniil Medvedev was defaulted for hitting a spectator with a ball. Djokovic was leading 7–5, 5–3, with the score at 15–15 as he served for the match.
The second set was left unfinished. The default decided the outcome, and the China Open confirmed that Djokovic's tournament record now stands at 33 wins from 33 matches. A six-time champion in Beijing, he will pursue a seventh title in the city.
Holding firm before the abrupt finish
Before the interruption, Djokovic's serve had come under sustained pressure. Medvedev broke for a 3–2 lead in the opening set, but the Serbian immediately recovered the break. Djokovic broke again in the final game to take the set 7–5.
In the second set, Djokovic saved six break points in the third game. He later moved 4–2 ahead, lost serve and answered with another break for 5–3. That sequence left him one game from victory when the incident occurred.
De Minaur awaits in the final
The final is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6. Djokovic will chase the 102nd title of his career, while De Minaur will contest his first China Open final.
The Australian advanced when Hubert Hurkacz retired through injury with De Minaur leading 6–4, 3–2. De Minaur had raced to a 4–0 lead in that semifinal and will now seek his second trophy of the season, following his title in Rotterdam.
